Mom of the Month- October

Jen started her journey with Fit4Mom while on maternity leave with her sweet girl, Julianne... and she hasn't stopped since! She loves to come and hang out with her mama friends and let Julianne be out in the fresh air and get exercise in while enteracting with her girl!

{1} Tell us who you are and a little about your kids and family!

I am a born and raised Lexingtonian through and through and an avid UK sports fan! I am a UK Grad and I currently work full-time as the Director of Sales and Marketing for 21c Museum Hotel in downtown Lexington. I am a huge animal lover and have two fur babies, Bailey and Skyy, that love to snuggle…requiring my husband and I to have an oversized king bed (wouldn’t trade it for the world!) Kyle and I have been married for 4 years and together for going on 10 – we met in a very romantic setting…serving Outback Steakhouse cheese fries. We love to travel, are definitely foodies and enjoy being outside listening to good music (I say country and he says old school rock – we can agree on Billy Joel) and drinking wine. We have a beautiful, smart and smiley baby girl, Julianne Grace (also known as Jules to most of you!) who is 8 months old that we just love to pieces – life with our sweet little blessing is just so sweet!

{2} What do you like most about being a mom?

I love absolutely everything about being a Mom! I have always loved babies and kiddos and am the youngest of three, by 9 and 12 years, so I was “Aunt Jen” long before I became a Mommy! One of the most special things about being a working mama is the afternoon countdown to going home and seeing my baby girl’s face light up with a huge smile and arms reach out to snuggle with me after being gone all day! I thank God every day for choosing me to be Julianne’s Mommy!

{3} Why do you stick with FIT4MOM as your workout program?

I am so thankful to my friend Stephanie for encouraging me to join our Fit4Mom Village while on maternity leave earlier this year - it was the best thing I could have done for me and baby girl and getting out of the house every morning to workout with other Mamas was just what I needed and so refreshing! Now I look forward to going to class after work and on Saturday mornings not only because it truly is an amazing workout, but also because Julianne and I now have a village of friends that we love to spend time with!

{4} What would you tell a first time mom to encourage them to take time for them?

Taking time for yourself is certainly so important! It is so easy to let being a Mom take away from all of your “me-time”. Getting out and getting moving allows you to feel so much better about yourself which will in turn make you a much better and happier Mama and wife! Exercising has always been my happy place and now I get to bring my sweet girl along, couldn’t ask for a better way to workout in my opinion!

{5} Any funny stories mom stories?

One of the funniest stories I can think of is from when Jules was a newborn – and I should preface the story by saying it’s funny now looking back but as all you mamas know…equally as frustrating in the moment! She was very colicky, in the evenings especially, and we would try every trick in the book to try and get her to calm down and stop crying, I mean we should have bought stock in Gripe Water and Gas Drops…I would nurse her, rock her, bounce her…then Daddy would come home from work and take her and start singing “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” or “Hey Jude” (but of course he modified it to be “Hey Jules”) and she would immediately stop crying after one verse…he started making up his own words to the songs and it was hilarious – he still sings these made-up songs to her to this day if she is fussy and she calms right down!
