Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Lindsey and I am originally from East Tennessee. I married my college sweetheart, Steven, going on 14 years ago and have lived in Kentucky ever since. I am a director of philanthropy for UK HealthCare and I love working in our community to raise money to support the life-changing research, education and care happening there. Steven and I have two amazing daughters, Sullivan Elaine, 3.5 and Willa James, 1.5. They keep us on our toes and make life so much fun! We also have a wonderful 15+ year old dog named Lucy who is so sweet and bring us joy.
What do you love about being a mom?
There are so many things I love about being a mom. I love how motherhood has helped me to discover my best-self. Having these amazing little people filling you with unconditional love and unwavering faith pushes me to adapt and change and strive to be the best version of myself daily. The hugs and kisses are pretty awesome bonuses too!
Why do you use FIT4MOM Lexington as your fitness program?
To be honest, I really did not know what I was fully getting myself into when I signed up for my first Body Back session. I thought I was signing up for a challenging workout class that was in a convenient location for me to get to and that was held at times that worked with my schedule. And while it certainly is all of those things, I had no idea about the personalized coaching and support, the nutrition component, the accountability and the amazing women that I would meet! I was very nervous before coming for the first time worrying about being out of shape and being in a class full of intimidating or snobby fit women (sorry but it’s true!!). And while there are certainly plenty of fit women at Fit4Mom, every single person I have encountered has been nothing but supportive, kind and accepting. Finding this wealth of mamas who are beautiful and strong inside and out has been the most wonderful surprise. I’ve stuck with it and continued to re-enroll in sessions because it works! I love that even after months of pushing myself, I still have ways to push myself more. And, I Iove-hate that I am still sore after every.single.class!!
What advice would you give other moms?
I read this quote recently and I loved it – “You’ll discover there’s no “right” way to be pregnant, give birth or mother – there’s only your way.” It really speaks to the main advice I like to give first time moms: we are ALL “faking it until we make it”…no one has a clue what they are doing, especially the first time around!! It is a lot of trial and error and learning to listen to your baby and body and discovering what works for you. Give yourself patience and grace and don’t be afraid to try what seems right to you.
Any funny stories you'd like to share?
At my first Body Back class I got really nervous at the end when it was time for our final relaxation and meditation. I realized that I had not yet had a chance to fill anyone in on my abilities as what my massage therapist dubbed being a “gifted relaxer” and I was scared I was going to fall asleep and people would think I was so weird. Now they all know and still think I am weird, but at least I get a little nudge or kick to make sure I am awake before the lights come on. My falling asleep continues to be something we can all joke about, but I really do love the meditations at the end of class. They help to send me on with my day feeling calm, relaxed and confident – even if I do absorb the message subconsciously!
