Mom of the Month- June

Congrats Heather for being the Mom of the Month for June! We wanted to give you a shoutout and highlight you as a mama and someone who is so hard working in our programs! Thanks for being a part of our village!

{1} Tell us who you are and a little about your kids and family!

My name is Heather and I'm Hayley's mommy and my husband's name is Ben. Our life is a little chaotic but we wouldn't have it any other way. I work for the American Cancer Society as a fundraiser and Ben is in PhD school at UK and studies MS research and pain. We are all HUGE UK fans. (Hayley had a meltdown yesterday just so she could where her UK shirt).

{2} What do you like most about being a mom?

This changes daily! I love being Hayley's person. While there are days that she is worse with me because of it, I love the days that she wants to cuddle or play with mommy. I didn't know if I was going to be able to have any kids (yay chemo and a transplant!) so watching her grow is truly the best experience. I also love being able to teach her to be the best she can be. She loves helping others, going to fundraising events and giving hugs. I'm not really sure how I got lucky enough to be her mommy.

{3} Why do you stick with FIT4MOM as your workout program?

I stick with FIT4MOM because it is obtainable for everyone. There are plenty of modifications for every fitness level and you feel strong no matter which one you are doing. I also love the support for both moms and kids. I love being able to take part of my day and spend it with people who just get it. Also, I love that Hayley gets to meet new friends of all ages while learning how to be healthy.

I do want to take a moment to have a shout out to the instructors. None of you were scared of my health history which is pretty uncommon for me. You made me feel like it was normal (as much as it can be) and something that I could push through and be stronger because of it. I have never had an instructor (let alone a group of them) that were so willing to push me to my limits and get me back to where I wanted to be. I cannot say thank you enough to each and every one of you!

{4} What would you tell a first time mom to encourage them to take time for them?

Just do it. You are going to be tired and lonely and full of emotions. Make sure you take a second to yourself so that you can get some air. You need to take care of you so that you can take care of your kiddo. I wish I would have found Fit4Mom sooner so that I knew to take time for myself and so that I could have the support of other moms. I am a much happier person, mom and wife because of Fit4Mom and taking time for myself.

{5} Any funny FIT4MOM stories ?

I think the best times I've had at SS (or Body Back) is when Lindsey tells us to do something and I just look at her like she's nuts. It is all out of love (and a little fear of face-planting), but she has pushed me to be able to do most of the crazy moves now. I am very grateful for that!

I love that Hayley has learned to "motivate" me in the stroller now. She is very vocal about when she wants to go faster and likes to point out when I'm walking and everyone else is running.
