Mom of the Month

Congratulations to Liz for being our Mom of the Month for February. Liz is one of those women that you can easily talk to, whenever, wherever, about anything! She's a great positive momma to have in class and is always up for fun. Thanks Liz for joining our village back in June- we're so glad you're with us. Now let's learn a little more about Liz!

1} What motivates you to workout, even on busy days?

Working out keeps me balanced. If I don’t work out, I end up yelling at my husband [more than usual]. So, it is definitely best for all of us if I get some workout time in during the week.

2} Tell me about your son!

I have an 18 month old, Tony! He is named after the Patron Saint of Miracles because doctors told us we couldn’t have children naturally. My husband went through chemo in 2010, but five years later, he was in remission and then Tony was born! So, we think he is pretty special, but definitely keeps me on my toes!

3} How did you hear about Stroller Strides and why do you keep coming back?

Congratulations to Meghann on being our Mom of the Month for January. She started with her little girl, Larkin, in September and has been ALL IN ever since. Meghann is ready to work the entire hour and has been a fabulous addition to our village! Let's learn a little more about her:

What I like most about being a mom is ever changing. It's so fun being home with Larkin and getting to know her and having her learning and changing everyday. With the boys I love sharing all their new adventures and learning who they are as individuals.

My kids are Philip {12}, Thomas {9}, and Larkin {6 months.} Philip loves theater and has been involved a several shows in several theaters around Lexington. Thomas likes theater as well but also enjoys hunting and archery. Larkin likes chewing on everything and cuddling.

I was a member of a stroller class when Philip was little. After Larkin was born I wanted to get back in shape but wanted to keep Larkin with me. I knew I wanted a stroller group and was happy to find Stroller Strides! I keep coming back because I love the workout...

1} What is your favorite part about being a momma?

My favorite part of being a momma is watching Madeline explore the world and become her own person. Simple things like baking cookies or now the ornaments on our Christmas tree are new to her and she's starting to make connections and talking about everything! "That cookie is hot! This ornament is red." In fact her favorite phrase this week is "what's that momma?" ALL DAY LONG! But cuddling with her first thing in the morning before the sun rises and answering her never ending questions only makes me love her and my husband more.

2} What advice would you give a first time mom?

Get out of the house everyday, even just a walk at the park or grab lunch at a drive thru while your kiddo naps in the car. Fresh air does a lot of good those first few months. Exercise is also great to start feeling like your body is yours again. I picked up running after Madeline and it was a great way to have time by myself, listen to podcasts and not be needed by anyone for just a few minutes. Also,...

Congratulations to Elizabeth for being the Mom of the Month!! Elizabeth joined our village in March of this year and has been a fabulous addition to our group of mommas! Her good attitude is contagious and so is her smile! Elizabeth has a great listening ear and is quick to help another mom out. Thanks, Elizabeth, for working hard and being a part of our village.

1} What is some advice you would give a first time mom?

Go with the flow! I thought I had a plan of how I was going to do things when Webb came home. I learned very quickly Webb wasn't ok with that plan or that my body wasn't on board with what I wanted. My husband, Clay, was the one who reminded me not everything had to be exactly how I thought it should be, or what other moms had told me their experience was. We had to adapt, and the best thing I could have learned was to just let things happen.

2} What motives you to workout? Even on stressful and busy days?

There are definitely days when I feel like I'm too busy or too stressed to do much of anything. But...

1} What is some advice you would give a first time mom?

The best advice that I would give a first time mom is to not be afraid to reach out. When my first son, James, was born – I was working over full time at our family business and had a very hard time adjusting to how I could do all my work and care for him. I had to learn the hard way that while I am a super woman – I genuinely can not do it all. I reached out and made friends with other moms at stroller strides who helped me know that it was not just me going through this internal struggle. Our Motivating Mom of the Month for September is Katie

a.k.a Elaine's mommy.

Katie has been a part of our village since March of this year and our classes haven’t been the same since! Katie brings life, humor, and encouragement to each workout she attends and is always up for a MNO and some good old fashioned socializing. Katie’s a fantastic mom to daughter Elaine and these two ladies are a great part of our village. Hear from Katie below:

Hello FIT4MOM Community,

My loving and hardworking husband Justin, a native to Lexington, landed us here two years ago. Justin is the only reason I would ever climb out of the mountains of West Virginia. We welcomed our sweet and curious daughter Elaine a year ago July 25th. "Baby Wayne" gives us a reason to smile and try our very best. Parenthood came with some second guessing and many sleepless nights. Following our heart and listening for laughter just might carry us along.

Our Motivating Mom of the Month is Ashley a.k.a Elayna and Deacon's mommy!

If you know Ashley, you know that she always works hard and does it with a smile! Ashley has been a part of our Stroller Strides village since July 2014 and has been going strong since! She is a full-time gifted and talented teacher, has two little ones at home and is your go-to for super cute and delicious cookies at your next birthday party or get together! Thank you for being part of Our Village!

1} What is some advice you would give a first time mom?

This group is so much more than a fitness group, you develop lifelong friendship with other like minded moms. Also, make time for yourself and go to the Moms Night Out events, they are always fun and a much needed stress reliever from the hectic lives we lead.

1} What's your favorite part of motherhood?

My favorite part of motherhood is seeing the world through my children's eyes. There are so many "firsts". Everything, even the smallest thing, is an amazing new experience to them. You get to witness pure joy almost daily.

Our March Motivating Mom of the Month is Venessa a.k.a. Hunters mommy!

I am originally from Syracuse, NY and after visiting Lexington, KY I knew this was where I was meant to be. I have a good friend who was always posting on Facebook about her FIT4MOM group in Denver and how much fun she was having. I envied her and I desperately needed something like that in my life. That is when I found FIT4MOM Lexington and joined this amazing group of moms! It was 2 years ago now and has been the best decision that I have made for me and my family. When my son was born I very much needed to meet other moms and I wanted to become active again.

1. What is your favorite part of being a mama?

What I love about being a mom is that nothing else can produce the joy or broken heart that motherhood allows. I can’t imagine going through life without feeling that spectrum of emotion. Feeling it all, good or bad, gives my life purpose.

Each month we take an opportunity to recognize one of our 'Motivating Moms' Our February Motivating Mom of the Month is Hannah a.k.a. Graysons mommy! She continues to set goals, work hard and encourage those around her! We are thrilled to announce that Hannah will be joining our team as an instructor in the very near future! And to think, she almost didn't come to her first class because she, like SO many of us, was hesitant to start something new while still trying to navigate being a new mommy.
